Soon an uninterrupted electricity supply: the minister unveils his plan
Colombo, May 21 (Newswire) — Power and Power Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said the government has decided to provide fuel for power generation as a priority, to ensure uninterrupted supply in electricity in the country.
He said that with the Norachcholai power plant expected to be operational again by tomorrow after the repair works and alongside the generation of hydroelectricity, the government plans to provide uninterrupted power supply to the whole country. at the beginning of next week.
“The original plan was to provide uninterrupted electricity by June 1, but we are now examining whether we can start it from the start of next week,” the minister said.
The Minister said that with this decision he expects people not to stockpile fuel for private electric generators. Therefore, more fuel should be available to the general public for transportation needs.
Kanchana Wijesekara went on to say that the government expects to end the electricity crisis as a priority, but the fuel crisis has no short term solution.
He also said that the government also plans to resume operations at the Sapugaskanda oil refinery. The minister expressed these views while addressing the media during a press briefing held at the ministry premises today (21).
