By filter type, synthetic accounted for the largest share in 2021

Synthetic is estimated to be the largest filter type in the non-woven filtration market. These filters are synthetic fibers randomly arranged, bonded and porous in nature. These synthetic fibers are thermoplastic polymers that are processed through a variety of chemical, mechanical and thermal treatments to be used for filtration. These filters use both mechanical and electret efficiency for filtration. The electrostatic effect is particularly useful for increasing the capture efficiency of submicron particles.

By layer, multilayer accounted for the largest share in 2021

Multilayer is estimated to be the largest market for the nonwoven filtration market. Multi-layer nonwoven filters are widely used in several applications, especially where higher filtration efficiency is required. They offer several beneficial properties such as durability and multiple separation functions. They provided improved breakthrough curves and higher adsorption capacities than single layer filters.

The Nonwoven Filtration Market size is estimated at USD 7.1 Billion in 2022 and is projected to reach USD 9.6 Billion by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 6.2%. Nonwoven fabrics are generally defined as structures of sheets or webs joined together by entangling fibers or filaments (and perforating films) mechanically, thermally or chemically. They are flat, porous sheets that are made directly from separate fibers or molten plastic or plastic film. These fabrics can be designed in different ways to provide specific properties to the filter media.

Nonwoven filtrations are mainly used in the filtration of air, liquids and gases. These fabrics have been replaced by traditional filtration media, such as paper, cloth and glass. Non-woven fabrics not only improve air quality, but also reduce energy costs and provide longer life. Specialized media work involves filtering or separating various parts of a fluid (air, gas, or liquid), or working with other materials as a pre-filter or carrier during the filtration and separation process.

The demand for Nonwoven Filtration is primarily met by global players who manufacture for various end-use industries. Some of the major companies involved in nonwoven filtration manufacturing are Freudenberg Group (Germany), Berry Global Group Inc (USA), Glatfelter Company (USA), Alkegen (USA) and Ahlstrom-Munksjö Holdings (Finland ). These companies, along with other regional companies, serve the global demand for nonwoven filtration.
